Traditionally Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) extract has been used for the treatment of inflammatory conditions in Europe. Novel experimental findings showed that Equisetum arvense has a modulatory effect on T-leucocytes that produce mediators of inflammation. It provides an anti-inflammatory effect, soothing, smoothing edema, and eliminating irritation of the skin.

Horsetail extract has a selective antibacterial effect on harmful gram-positive cocci improving microflora balance and overall health of the skin. It also protects skin micro-vessels from hyperosmotic stress and damaging factors by toning endothelial vascular cells and stimulating blood flow.

Rich in polyphenols, Horsetail extract has high antioxidant activity. Moreover, it was able to absorb UV radiation thanks to the high contents of silicates. Silica concentrated in the shoots of the plant is highly absorbable and utilized to promote collagen formation.
