Resveratrol

Red grapes

Resveratrol (RE) is a celebrity ingredient of anti-aging and skin whitening beauty formulations. It is mostly found in red grapes. Berries, nuts and cocoa powder are also considered to be good sources of this compound. The boom of resveratrol began in 1990s when it was declared a possible candidate-compound for French paradox* explanation. That was the starting point of its intense study all over the globe. Nowadays, it is scientifically proven that resveratrol exhibits a whole myriad of benefits for skin.

  • It is a powerful antioxidant. Research shows that it fights free radicals better than famous antioxidant vitamins C and E. Neutralizing notorious adversaries of skin it prevent decrease of skin collagen content and leads to young, firm and beautiful appearance of skin.
  • It has strong anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation leads to degradation of collagen resulting in wrinkled and sagged skin. RE hinders inflammation process and, therefore, retards skin aging.
  • It has skin whitening effect. As is known, one of the problems of aged skin is hyperpigmentation (dark patches that appear of dermal surface). RE restricts the production of melanin, the pigment which causes dark patches, and leaves us with even tone skin finish.
  •  It also displays antibacterial and antiviral properties and might be used to combat diverse germ-provoked skin problems.

Resveratrol is a dream come true for all those who long for attractive, youthful and smooth skin.

*French paradox is a phrase which describes following observation. Although butter and cheese (saturated fat) are largely utilized in French cuisine, the rate of coronary heart disease is relatively low in France. One of the hypotheses explaining this phenomenon might be the wide consumption of red wine by French people.
