Calendula officinalis (officinalis means "pharmaceutical"), also known as Pot marigold – but don't be confused, this is not the same as your common everyday garden marigold – is a bushy, aromatic, annual herb native to Southern Europe. The flower heads and the petals, orange/yellow, are used to make internal and external medicine. For example, during the American Civil War, the petals were used to treat open wounds of the soldiers on the battlefields.

Calendula is the herb of choice for healing wounds. Due to its antiseptic action, Pot marigold is one of the best herbs used externally for cleaning wounds. By placing this herbal extract on external cuts, abrasions, etc., these wounds heal in half the time compared to other healing agents.

It is also highly effective for the treatment of:

Calendula is also great for new mothers as it is safe and natural to use for nappy rash, cradle cap, and cracked nipples. In addition, the petals of the Calendula flower are high in flavonoids which help reduce free radicals in the body, and they can be used in cooking – remember only use a little, or you can spoil the taste of the meal!

This beneficial extract with antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties speeds up the healing of wounds, skin repair and is famous for use on babies' skin.
