Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium Chloride is a magnesium salt of hydrochloric acid, a by-product of table salt production (rich in Dead sea salt), and an inorganic mineral with essential trace element. It has multiple beneficial effects on the skin, such as barrier function recovery, hydration, soothing, and antimicrobial action.

Used in food processing as a coagulator, Magnesium Chloride is a safe food-grade ingredient for skin care applications used since ancient times for a bath and treatment of some skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, dryness, and roughness. In modern skin care preparations, it leaves similar effects, reducing redness and transdermal water loss and improving the barrier and texture of the skin.

Although Magnesium ions leave revitalizing effect on the cell, it also promotes the growth of micobes in normal conditions. But, in acidic (low pH) conditions Magnesium Chloride acts as an antiseptic surprising microbial growth. This property makes it an ideal ingredient for combination with acidic AHAs and BHA, protecting skin from bacterial invasion during and after chemical peel and exfoliation.

In addition, Magnesium Chloride stabilizes emulsions and nanoparticles, preventing settling and shielding unstable ingredients in the formula. Thanks to its safety, functional and beneficial effects, it is used in exfoliators, innovative peptide complexes, and sensitive skin products.
