Product Overview

Ourself Complexion Brightening Serum is a targeted serum for the look of discoloration, brown spots and uneven tone, built on the brand’s patented Tiered-Release Vesicle™ Technology. The delivery system carries the MI 9™ intelligent peptide and tranexamic acid into the layers of the skin where they can have the most visible impact.

Alongside niacinamide, retinyl linoleate and 4-butylresorcinol, the formula helps refine the look of tone and texture and supports a brighter, clearer-looking complexion with continued use — without hydroquinone.

It is the targeted step in an Ourself routine: applied first, before the Advanced Regenerative Serum, morning and evening, and always finished with daytime sunscreen.

Recommended For

  • Dark spots, brown spots and the appearance of uneven pigmentation.
  • Discoloration in its earliest visible stages.
  • Dull, uneven-looking tone and rough texture.
  • Anyone looking for a brightening serum formulated without hydroquinone.
  • All skin types; not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding — see Safety Information.

Texture and Experience

A lightweight serum that absorbs quickly and layers comfortably under the rest of the routine, without a sticky or tacky residue.

Safety Information

This serum is for external use on the face. Apply one to two pumps over clean skin, morning and evening or as tolerated, and let it absorb before moisturizer. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every morning — sun exposure is what makes discoloration return, so consistent protection is part of the routine, not an extra. Keep the serum away from the immediate eye area; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Introduce one new product at a time, patch test along the jawline or on the inner forearm first, and discontinue if signs of irritation or rash appear. Close the pump after use, store away from direct sunlight and heat, and keep out of reach of children. Read the ingredient list before first use if you have known sensitivities. For help building the routine around it, book an online skincare consultation.

Not recommended for:

  • Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant — the brand advises against it; discuss the ingredient list with your own specialist.
  • Anyone with a known sensitivity to an ingredient in the list above or on the packaging.
  • Broken, sunburned or freshly exfoliated skin — wait until the surface feels settled again.
  • Use inside the eyes, on the lips or on other mucous membranes.
  • The same step as strong exfoliating acids or another vitamin A product while your skin is still adjusting; alternate or separate them.
  • The days right after an in-studio resurfacing service, unless your esthetician has told you when to restart your usual routine.
  • Children.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the Advanced Regenerative Serum?
This serum is the targeted step for the look of dark spots and uneven tone: MI 9™, tranexamic acid, niacinamide and 4-butylresorcinol. The Advanced Regenerative Serum is the all-in-one step for hydration, volume, firmness and texture. Use this one when discoloration is the priority; the two are designed to be layered, with this serum going on first.

Does it contain hydroquinone?
No. The brightening action comes from the MI 9™ peptide, tranexamic acid, niacinamide and 4-butylresorcinol.

Morning or evening?
Both, or as tolerated. It contains retinyl linoleate, a mild vitamin A derivative, so if your skin is new to vitamin A, start with evenings and add mornings once it feels comfortable. Sunscreen is the final step of every morning routine.

How long before I notice a difference?
Brightening care is gradual. Keep to it daily over several weeks rather than expecting an immediate change, and protect skin from the sun so the progress holds. Individual results vary.

How does it fit around in-studio services?
It is the everyday brightening step between salon facials, HydraFacial sessions and dermaplaning. After stronger resurfacing such as VI Peels, pause actives and let your esthetician tell you when to bring them back.
