Professional Recommendation
This is the version to reach for when you want daily protection and a more even-looking complexion in one step. It is the same hydrating SPF 50 base as the untinted Hydration+, with mineral pigments added, so it reads as skin rather than as makeup. Compared with the lighter UV Daily Tinted SPF 40 it is richer and better suited to dry, dehydrated and mature skin, while UV Clear Tinted SPF 46 remains the choice for blemish-prone and oilier skin. The iron oxides also give this formula a little support against visible light, which the untinted version does not have.
Warm one or two pumps between your fingertips before applying, then work outward from the center of the face so the tint stays even — the places people miss are the jawline, the sides of the nose and the hairline, and those are exactly where an uneven tint shows. Apply the full amount you would use for an untinted sunscreen; going sparingly to keep the color light also lowers the protection you get. If you are unsure how it will sit with your usual base, an online skin care consultation is an easy way to plan the layering.
Safety Information
Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every two hours, and again after swimming, toweling off or heavy sweating. Sun protection works alongside shade, a wide-brimmed hat and covering clothing, not instead of them, so keep time in the midday sun limited as well. For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if the product gets into your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
Not recommended for:
- Children under 6 months of age.
- Broken, freshly wounded or bleeding skin.
- Anyone with a known sensitivity to zinc oxide, octisalate, iron oxides or any other listed ingredient.
- Use straight after an in-studio treatment, before the professional who treated you has cleared it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this and the untinted UV Daily Hydration+ SPF 50?
The base formula and the SPF 50 protection are identical. This version adds sheer mineral pigment, which evens out the look of the complexion, hides any pale cast and adds some visible-light support. If you would rather have a clear finish or apply your own foundation on top, choose the untinted version.
There is only one shade — will it suit my skin tone?
The tint is sheer and universal rather than a matched foundation shade, so it adjusts to a wide range of tones once blended. Blend it right down onto the neck and check the result in daylight; on very deep or very fair skin it should read as a soft evening-out, not as coverage.
Can it replace my foundation?
For many people, on most days, yes — the finish is sheer and skin-like. It will not cover the way a full-coverage base does, so if you want more evening-out, use a concealer only where you need it and leave the rest as it is.
How do I top up during the day without disturbing the tint?
Press a fresh layer on with clean fingertips or a sponge rather than rubbing, or reach for EltaMD UV AOX Mist SPF 40, which mists over makeup. Either way, keep to the two-hour rhythm.
Does the tint transfer onto clothing or collars?
Once it has settled it behaves like a sunscreen rather than a foundation, so transfer is minimal. Give it a full minute to set before you dress, and apply a little less along the jawline where fabric touches the skin.
